Physical activity is anything that requires movement, which includes gardening, climbing stairs, grocery shopping, or playing with your children/grandchildren.

Regular physical activity is key for your health and can provide immediate benefits such as improved brain health, weight management, bone and muscle strengthening, help with symptoms of arthritis, and improved everyday activity. It can also reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, infectious diseases, hip fractures, and even some cancers!

Regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health. An estimated 110,000 deaths per year could be prevented if US adults ages 40 and older increased their moderate-to-vigorous physical activity by a small amount. Even 10 minutes more a day would make a difference.

Different ages require different amounts of physical activity. View the Physical Activity Recommendations for Different Ages by the CDC.
